Summary

This live webinar is designed to provide funeral professionals with the information they need to best serve LGBTQIA+ individuals and families in their care. This program includes a lexicon of common terms used by the community, examples of issues that may arise during funeral arrangements, unique concerns around funeral service held by the LGBTQIA+ community, ideas for community engagement, and more. Kat will discuss use of proper pronouns and preferred names vs legal names for transgender and nonbinary individuals. Discussion will also cover “non-traditional” family structures often seen in the LGBTQIA+ community and how to best serve these families. Finally, Kat will touch upon how to handle unsupportive next of kin, and how funeral professionals can educate the public on protecting the their rights at end-of-life and into the death system.
