Summary

This timely and thought-provoking program served as an early kickoff to the OFDA 2026 Convention theme, A State of Collaboration—setting the stage for meaningful conversations about how funeral service professionals can strengthen relationships, reduce stigma, and play a more visible role within their communities.

Death remains one of the most misunderstood and avoided topics in society, and funeral professionals often feel that stigma firsthand. Creating Death Positive Communities explores how collaboration with community partners—such as healthcare providers, social workers, educators, clergy, and civic organizations—can change the narrative around death, dying, and funeral service.

Presented by Shana Sadoski, LISW, MSW, MPH, Director of Grief Support and Community Education at Walker Funeral Homes, this webinar draws from real-world experience in the greater Toledo area. Shana shares practical strategies and real examples of engaging “community gatekeepers” to foster open dialogue, build trust, and create partnerships that support individuals and families before, during, and after a loss.

Ideal for funeral directors and staff at any stage of their career seeking meaningful outreach, stronger partnerships, and a more visible community presence.

By attending, licensees will leave with fresh perspective and practical tools to enhance community understanding of funeral service, reduce stigma surrounding death, and strengthen the profession’s role as a trusted community resource.
